Hyundai Motor Group has announced plans to establish a waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) ecosystem in West Java Province, Indonesia, during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit in Jakarta. The group will collaborate with Pertamina and the West Java Province to advance sustainable hydrogen solutions. This initiative aims to launch an on-site hydrogen refueling station by 2027, utilizing Pertamina's existing compressed natural gas infrastructure. The station will be supplied with low-carbon hydrogen produced from biogas sourced at Sarimukti landfill near Bandung. During a summit in Jakarta, Indonesia's national hydrogen roadmap was discussed, with significant contributions from Hyundai Motor Group and key government ministries. The group's partnership with Pertamina allows for the development of a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem in Indonesia, covering aspects like refueling stations, hydrogen production, transport, and vehicle utilization. The Sarimukti landfill, which handles a large volume of waste daily, will be a key site for low-carbon hydrogen production. Hyundai Motor Group, emphasizing corporate social responsibility (CSR), is collaborating with local partners to improve community access to clean water and healthcare. By extracting biogas from the landfill for hydrogen production and enhancing safety measures, the group aims to contribute to waste management and disaster prevention in the region. This overseas expansion of Hyundai's W2H model showcases a commitment to sustainable solutions and aligns with Indonesia's goals for renewable energy and hydrogen utilization. The collaboration with Indonesian government bodies signifies a step towards addressing waste management challenges and promoting low carbon hydrogen production in the country.
