Sunshine Hydro and Zen Energy have entered into a partnership to develop a groundbreaking sustainable energy strategy in Queensland, Australia. The collaboration aims to integrate pumped hydro energy storage with green hydrogen production to create a reliable 24/7 energy supply for large consumers. This initiative involves utilizing Sunshine Hydro's advanced energy storage optimization program, Aesop, to design hybrid generation assets such as pumped hydro and big batteries. The agreement focuses on ensuring a high level of reliability, surpassing that of Australia's existing coal plants, by matching baseload supply with local renewable sources every hour of every day. The key assets of the project include the Djandori Gung-i Superhybrid clean energy project at Miriam Vale, which will feature pumped hydro capacity and hydrogen electrolysers. Additionally, the collaboration will incorporate 11 GWh of energy storage, a green methanol plant, a peaker plant, and significant wind and solar power purchase agreements. The partners aim to commence the delivery of renewable energy in 2031. Zen Energy's recent initiatives include a PPA with Enel Green Power Australia for the Quorn Park Hybrid Project and plans for a 1GW pumped hydro project. These efforts align with the company's vision to support the transition to renewable energy and contribute to Australia's development as a renewable energy superpower.
