Infrastructure operator Fluxys has initiated the construction of a hydrogen pipeline network in Belgium, focusing on key port areas such as Antwerp and Ghent, with planned extensions between Kallo and Zelzate. The company aims to provide transport capacity through new hydrogen pipelines based on open access principles and multi-purpose technology. The first phase, set to be completed in 2026, will be gradually expanded in line with market developments, supported by government mechanisms to manage investment risks effectively. CEO Pascal De Buck emphasized the critical role of this infrastructure in decarbonizing the industry, underscoring Fluxys' commitment to the energy transition. Fluxys hydrogen, established as a subsidiary in 2023, has been entrusted with developing and managing an open-access hydrogen transport network in Belgium. This initiative marks a significant milestone in facilitating the hydrogen economy by offering a network for producers and consumers to connect, reflecting Fluxys' position as the 'Hydrogen Network Operator.'
