Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub: RCE to Begin Infrastructure Work for Green Hydrogen Facility
Key Ideas
  • Robertson Civil Engineering will commence infrastructure work for the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub, a joint project by bp and Aberdeen City Council.
  • The Hub aims to be a scalable green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution facility powered by renewable energy in Aberdeen.
  • RCE will oversee construction activities and manage various aspects of the hydrogen production and refuelling station's development.
  • The project reflects a commitment to inclusive growth by supporting the supply chain, skills development, and the wider community, aligning with Robertson's approach.
Robertson Civil Engineering (RCE) is set to embark on infrastructure work later this year for the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub, a collaborative initiative between bp and Aberdeen City Council. The hub, located in Aberdeen, will serve as a green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution facility powered by renewable energy. RCE will be responsible for the construction of civil works and structural infrastructure at the hydrogen hub site. Currently, the design phase is in progress with RCE and design partner Fairhurst in Edinburgh working together. RCE's scope includes managing design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover of the hydrogen production and refuelling station along with associated infrastructure. Martin Kiely, executive director at Robertson Civil Engineering, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the company's support for the innovative vision of bp and Aberdeen City Council. Robertson's experience in the sustainable energy sector, such as the completion of the Whitehillock Substation for Siemens Energy, positions them well for this project. Additionally, Robertson previously delivered the modular energy center at Aberdeen’s TECA, which featured a hydrogen fuel cells program for buses as part of Aberdeen City Council's integrated hydrogen transport project.
