H2Terminals, a green hydrogen marine technology company, and the London P&I Club, a marine liability insurer, have entered a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on developing insurance solutions for the shipping of green hydrogen. The partnership will focus on providing insurance coverage for H2Terminals' hydrogen-powered vessels, patented liquid hydrogen storage systems, fuel cells, and autonomous operations. Over the next year, both companies will work together to assess specific insurance needs, evaluate risk factors unique to green hydrogen marine transportation, and establish best practices for insuring bulk liquid hydrogen transportation. The initiative also involves offshore production of green hydrogen at an energy island, utilizing wind, solar, and wave energy, as well as the transportation of liquid hydrogen via carriers and distribution through power barges to deliver green hydrogen, electricity, and other byproducts at scale. Gerry Wilkinson, CEO of H2Terminals, highlighted the significance of the partnership with London P&I Club in advancing liquid hydrogen adoption in the UK market. Ian Gooch, CEO of London P&I Club, emphasized the transformative potential of green hydrogen in the shipping industry and the partnership's role in providing sustainable insurance solutions. This collaboration follows H2Terminals' MoU with Lloyd's Register to collaborate on floating production and transport of hydrogen.
