Hyundai New Zealand has announced that two of its zero emissions heavy vehicles, the Mighty electric light-duty truck and the Xcient hydrogen heavy-duty truck, are eligible for grants under the New Zealand government's Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund (LEHVF). The $27.7 million fund, managed by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), is designed to hasten the uptake of zero and low-emission heavy vehicles throughout the country. Grant Doull, Hyundai NZ's national manager of hydrogen and eco commercial vehicles, expressed pride in advancing electric and hydrogen solutions to assist businesses in creating a positive environmental impact. The LEHVF provides grants of up to 25% of the purchase price for new zero-emissions vehicles, including battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric models. It also covers conversion costs for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles transitioning to zero-emissions, as well as for new low-emission vehicles like plug-in diesel-electric hybrids and hydrogen-diesel dual-fuel vehicles. The program extends support for new ICE vehicles or used ICE vehicles converted to run on low-emissions technologies registered between 1 August 2022 and 1 August 2024.
