Metrans Introduces Slovakia's First Hydrogen-Powered Truck for Climate-Neutral Container Transport
Key Ideas
- Metrans, in collaboration with MIP, has begun testing Slovakia's first hydrogen-powered truck for climate-neutral container transport.
- The truck, built on the Ford F-Max platform with a 117 kW fuel cell and 48-kilogram hydrogen tank, aims for a range of 600 kilometres, refuelled with hydrogen from renewable sources.
- This initiative aligns with Metrans' commitment to eco-friendly transport, already utilizing e-trucks, electric locomotives, and container cranes, furthering their efforts for decarbonizing logistics chains.
- Metrans' involvement in the Clean Port & Logistics Cluster demonstrates a broader exploration of hydrogen-powered equipment in port logistics, showcasing a dedication to sustainable solutions.
Metrans, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has initiated the testing of Slovakia's inaugural hydrogen-powered truck in partnership with Mobility & Innovation Production s.r.o (MIP). The truck, based on the Ford F-Max platform with a 117 kW REFIRE fuel cell and Dana Sumo motor, includes a 48-kilogram hydrogen tank ensuring a minimum range of 600 kilometres. Refuelling during the trial phase will exclusively use hydrogen sourced from renewable energy. Peter Kiss, CEO of the Metrans Group, expressed enthusiasm for testing MIP's innovative hydrogen truck for container transport, enhancing climate-friendly road and rail options. Since 2022, Metrans has integrated e-trucks into their sustainable fleet alongside energy-efficient electric/hybrid locomotives and electric cranes, with the hydrogen-powered truck extending their eco-friendly transport initiatives. Metrans' participation in the Clean Port & Logistics Cluster underscores a broader commitment to exploring hydrogen equipment within port logistics, emphasizing a sustainable approach to operations.
