Beyond Aero, a French startup, revealed on March 17, 2025, that they have made significant modifications to their hydrogen-powered executive aircraft design to incorporate technological advancements and move closer to certification. The enhancements focus on three key aspects of the aircraft's propulsion system. Firstly, the hydrogen-fuel system will feature two separate electric engines with built-in redundancy, totaling 2.4MW of power. This design can be further scaled up if necessary in the future. The hydrogen storage system has been reconfigured for improved safety by being placed above the wing box structure, reducing risks in case of a crash and eliminating high-pressure fuel lines within the pressurized cabin. Additionally, the aircraft will utilize a computer-controlled thermal management system with electric fans to enhance performance in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures. These modifications are expected to not only improve the aircraft's capabilities but also enhance its cost profile. Beyond Aero anticipates that hydrogen will be 65% cheaper than synthetic sustainable aviation fuel and 17% cheaper than Jet A1 by 2030. Moreover, the company aims to substantially reduce maintenance costs by having fewer moving parts and avoiding a high-temperature turbine. These changes underscore Beyond Aero's dedication to safety, innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in their pursuit of developing a cutting-edge hydrogen-powered executive aircraft.
