Under the leadership of Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, India, is gearing up to begin green hydrogen production by the end of August. This endeavor is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish a green hydrogen ecosystem in Kandla, encompassing green ammonia and methanol as well. With support from industry heavyweight L&T, the port is constructing a demonstration plant and is set to introduce 11 hydrogen-powered buses in partnership with NTPC, a move that will help reduce dependence on diesel and promote eco-friendly transportation solutions. This initiative not only aligns with global emission reduction objectives but also positions Kandla as a significant contributor to sustainable maritime practices. The port has recently surpassed its cargo-handling target for the fiscal year 2024-25, achieving a milestone of 150.16 million tonnes. Impressively, this feat was accomplished without expanding the existing infrastructure, emphasizing the operational efficiency of the port. Looking ahead, Kandla aims to enhance its infrastructure efficiency further by implementing 'berthing on arrival' facilities, a strategic move that will streamline operations and underline the port's commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.
