Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the NTPC's Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh, India. The project includes a hydrogen-fuelling station, a 1.7 MW solar plant, and five fuel cell buses operating at an altitude of 11,562 feet, marking the first hydrogen bus deployment on public roads in India. NTPC aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 and lead in green hydrogen and energy storage initiatives. The project also features a green hydrogen filling station capable of producing 80 kg/day, with each of the five hydrogen intra-city buses covering 300 km per single hydrogen fill. This initiative is set at the world's highest altitude for a green hydrogen mobility project, designed to operate in low-density air and sub-zero temperatures. The station is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 350 MT annually and contribute 230 MT of pure oxygen into the atmosphere, equivalent to planting 13,000 trees yearly. NTPC plans to expand its hydrogen mobility projects across India and increase renewable energy capacity, with the establishment of a hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh. The minister also visited a waste-to-art sculptures site during the event.
