Wrightbus, a leading UK bus manufacturer, has partnered with Forsee Power to repower more than 1,000 diesel buses into electric ones over the next three years. This initiative is part of Wrightbus' NewPower project, which aims to replace older diesel engines with new zero-emission electric powertrains. The company has established a hi-tech factory in Bicester, Oxfordshire, for this purpose, becoming the first OEM to offer a re-powering service. By removing the combustion engine, exhaust, and tank and replacing them with electric motors and batteries, the converted buses achieve zero emissions, improved efficiency, safety, and extended lifespan. Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales expressed the company's commitment to sustainability and announced plans for strong European growth, with deals already in Germany. Forsee Power's ZEN PLUS battery systems, ranging from 74 to 84 kWh, were selected for this project due to their high energy density and long cycle life, ensuring a competitive Total Cost of Ownership. Forsee Power, a non-Chinese battery manufacturer, has equipped over 3,000 electric buses globally and collaborates with various bus OEMs, offering a range of technologies for different charging modes. The collaboration between Wrightbus and Forsee Power highlights a joint effort toward sustainable transport solutions, emphasizing the importance of decarbonizing the transport sector. With a focus on innovative battery technology and a shared vision for zero-emission public transport, the partnership aims to repower thousands of vehicles in the years to come, contributing to a greener and more efficient transport ecosystem.
