Wrightbus, the rapidly growing bus manufacturer in the UK and Europe, unveiled a 300kw hydrogen coach demonstrator at the Cenex Expo, showcasing their commitment to decarbonizing public transport. The CEO, Jean-Marc Gales, expressed gratitude for government support from the Department for Business and Trade, facilitated by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC), along with partnerships with Queen’s University Belfast and Symbio. The company, known for its innovation in transport, has a rich history of creating the world's first hydrogen-powered bus and an award-winning battery-electric version. The focus now turns towards decarbonizing coaches, which require longer travel distances and higher payloads. Despite the coach demonstrator being a work in progress, the new driveline development shows promising results, with the ability to cover 1,000kms on one refueling. Wrightbus's journey since its rescue in 2019 has been remarkable, with significant deals in Germany, workforce growth, and the launch of NewPower, a division dedicated to replacing diesel bus engines with EV powertrains.
