The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Green Hydrogen Organization (GH2) to accelerate the implementation of Indonesia's national hydrogen strategy. The collaboration between MEMR and GH2 encompasses four key areas: policy and regulations, market expansion and investment, financing mechanisms, and regional cooperation. Through their partnership under the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Alliance, the entities aim to promote green hydrogen policies and secure financing for renewable hydrogen projects in Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. The main goal of the partnership is to strengthen cooperation in promoting energy security and a sustainable transition through the production and utilization of green and low-carbon hydrogen in the Asia Pacific region. GH2 will provide support to MEMR and Indonesian stakeholders by offering guidance, assisting in the development of standards, organizing capacity-building programs, and sharing global best practices related to renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen sectors. GH2 CEO Jonas Moberg emphasized the strategic advantage of the Asia Pacific region in competitively producing green hydrogen, which could facilitate the decarbonization of hard-to-electrify industries and enhance energy security and self-sufficiency. Moberg also noted the potential for green hydrogen to become cost-competitive with grey hydrogen, especially in countries with favorable renewable energy costs. The collaboration between MEMR and GH2 signifies a significant step towards advancing Indonesia's hydrogen strategy and fostering sustainable practices in the region.
