Stef Group Introduces Hydrogen-Powered Forklifts with Toyota: A Step Towards a Sustainable Future
Key Ideas
  • Stef Group partners with Toyota and Plug Power to introduce hydrogen-powered forklifts in France and Spain, aiming to develop a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem.
  • Hydrogen solutions include green H2 production in France with renewable energy and on-site electrolysis in Spain powered by a photovoltaic rooftop plant.
  • Hydrogen fuel cell technology offers improved operational productivity, lasting twice as long as traditional batteries, contributing to reducing environmental impact across the product lifecycle.
  • Stef's Moving Green climate initiative targets using 100% low-carbon energy in its buildings by 2025, aligning with the adoption of hydrogen-powered forklifts as part of sustainable practices.
Stef Group, a European transport and logistics services provider focusing on temperature-controlled food products, has launched projects in France and Spain involving hydrogen-powered forklifts and hydrogen fuel cell solutions. These initiatives are in partnership with Toyota Material Handling Europe and Plug Power, aiming to integrate H2 production and H2-powered material handling equipment. The first project in France, at a transport platform near Paris, utilizes green H2 produced with renewable energy. On the other hand, the project in Spain, situated at a logistics warehouse near Madrid, generates H2 through on-site electrolysis powered by a photovoltaic rooftop plant. Stef Group anticipates enhanced operational productivity through hydrogen fuel cell technology, known for its efficiency even in extreme operating conditions ranging from -18° to +4°. Additionally, the hydrogen fuel cells have a longer lifespan of 10 years compared to traditional batteries, thereby reducing the environmental impact across the product lifecycle. The advantages of hydrogen-powered forklifts also include quick refilling in less than three minutes, reducing the safety risks associated with lead-acid battery changes. These projects reflect Stef's commitment to sustainability, with the Moving Green climate initiative aiming to adopt 100% low-carbon energy in its buildings by 2025. The introduction of hydrogen-powered forklifts aligns with the company's sustainable practices and signifies a step towards building a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem for efficient material handling operations.
