ArcelorMittal Poland, in collaboration with Linde Gaz Polska, is embarking on a green transition by embracing hydrogen in its Krakow branch. The companies are set to construct a hydrogen production plant on-site, investing over PLN 100 million to supply process gas to galvanizing plants by the end of 2026. This initiative marks a significant shift for ArcelorMittal Poland, as it has already phased out coal as a fuel source since 2018 and eliminated coke production in July this year, operating solely on natural gas. The project includes the construction of hydrogen furnaces to replace ammonia in the annealing plant, enhancing process safety and environmental sustainability. Wojciech Koszuta, CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland, highlights the company's substantial investments in Krakow to improve product quality, expand the product range, and reduce environmental impact. The collaboration with Linde Gaz Polska, an experienced hydrogen solutions provider, signifies a strategic move towards decarbonization and operational efficiency. The joint effort not only focuses on steel production but also on enhancing the processing part with sustainable practices.
