  • The company's expansion aims to enhance scale, efficiency, and competitiveness in providing electrolyser products to the European market.
  • The new facility in Malaga will initially focus on producing 5 MW electrolysers, with plans to scale production capacity up to 5 GW as per market demand.
  • Spain's target to build 11 GW in electrolyser capacity by 2030 aligns with Hygreen Energy's strategic move to capitalize on the growing hydrogen market in Europe.
Hygreen Energy, a Chinese manufacturer and developer in the field of hydrogen technology, is gearing up to make a remarkable investment of EUR 2 billion in green hydrogen projects in Spain. Through an agreement with Coxabengoa, the company intends to set up an electrolyser manufacturing facility, launch a technology development program, and construct green hydrogen production plants, particularly in Andalusia, Spain. The planned electrolyser facility in Malaga will start by manufacturing 5 MW electrolysers compliant with European standards and scale production up to 5 GW. Additionally, Hygreen Energy will focus on advancing electrolyser technologies through an R&D program and a 10 MW testing platform. The company also envisions building large-scale green hydrogen production plants, estimating a total capacity of 1.12 GW in Huelva, Andalusia. This initiative is expected to inject over EUR 2 billion in capital and resources into the region, fostering the hydrogen economy. Hygreen Energy's CEO, Benny Wang, highlighted the strategic significance of these plans in aligning the company with the promising hydrogen market in Europe. Spain's ambitious goal of achieving 11 GW in electrolyser capacity by 2030 corresponds well with Hygreen Energy's vision. With Andalusia's rich renewable energy potential, particularly in wind and solar power, the region is poised to become a leading hub for green hydrogen production.
