Ashoka Buildcon, a construction engineering company, has announced its plan to invest Rs 9,000 crore in the development of a green hydrogen plant in Bihar. The Chief Operating Officer of Renewable Energy at Ashoka Buildcon, Mayank Sharma, shared this news during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 event where the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government. This investment signifies Ashoka Buildcon's commitment to expanding its presence in the renewable energy sector. The proposed plant will utilize a 1,250 MW solar project to generate clean electricity that will be used in the production of green hydrogen through water electrolysis. Green hydrogen is recognized as one of the cleanest energy sources as it only produces water when burned, enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental impact. The initial phase of the project is planned to be located in Begusarai, Bihar, with an estimated timeline of 1.5-2 years for completion after acquiring all necessary approvals. Ashoka Buildcon's focus on green hydrogen aligns with its existing portfolio in highway construction, power distribution, and solar projects. The company's order book, as of March 31, 2024, stood at Rs 11,697 crore, with significant contributions from road and railway projects as well as power transmission and distribution ventures. By diversifying into green hydrogen, Ashoka Buildcon aims to contribute to sustainable practices and promote the adoption of clean energy solutions in India's industrial landscape, supporting economic growth and environmental conservation efforts.
