India Takes Bold Step to Boost Green Hydrogen Production
Key Ideas
  • The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in India has exempted certain renewable energy plants within SEZs and EOUs from compliance with the RLMM requirements, if they supply power exclusively for Green Hydrogen production.
  • This exemption, valid for plants commissioned by December 31, 2030, aims to support the development of Green Hydrogen production facilities and aligns with existing onshore wind power project guidelines.
  • The decision, approved by the Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy, is expected to enhance India's capabilities in renewable energy and Green Hydrogen production.
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has made a significant policy change to boost Green Hydrogen production. Certain renewable energy plants within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or Export Oriented Units (EOUs) that exclusively supply power for Green Hydrogen production are now exempt from the Revised List of Models & Manufacturers (RLMM) requirements. This exemption, applicable to plants commissioned by December 31, 2030, aims to support the development of Green Hydrogen production facilities. The exemption aligns with existing guidelines for onshore wind power projects issued in 2016. The decision, approved by the Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy, is a strategic move to enhance India's capabilities in renewable energy and Green Hydrogen production.
