Vice Admiral V Srinivas, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOCINC) of the Southern Naval Command, announced that the Indian Navy is actively considering the use of hydrogen fuel to advance environmentally sustainable practices. He highlighted ongoing collaborations with agencies like Cochin Shipyard Ltd to achieve this objective. The Navy is dedicated to maintaining high environmental standards nationwide by promoting eco-friendly fuels and operations. Vice Admiral Srinivas also discussed the Navy's commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, focusing on indigenisation and technology export. He mentioned the Centre for Indigenisation and Self-Reliance (CISR) in Coimbatore, which plays a crucial role in developing indigenous technologies. Additionally, updates on the reconstruction of the North Jetty at Naval Base Kochi were shared, with confirmation of its operational status by January. The Vice Admiral highlighted the commencement of training for the fifth batch of 3,000 trainees under the Agniveer recruitment scheme, emphasizing their deployment at the Southern Naval Command for further training. Furthermore, he underlined the significant opportunities available for women in the Navy, including key leadership roles and participation in training programs.
