Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Arvinder Singh Sahney, announced at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, that the corporation is making substantial progress in the development of a green hydrogen plant in Panipat, Haryana. With a production capacity of 10,000 tons per annum, the plant is expected to be operational within two years, marking a significant step towards sustainability and contributing to India's green energy mission. Sahney highlighted IOC's efforts in expanding the city gas distribution (CGD) sector by increasing infrastructure and providing more connections to households, including the establishment of additional CNG stations and piped natural gas supply. Despite concerns over American sanctions on Russia, Sahney expressed confidence in India's ability to meet its energy needs through various sources. The IOC Chairman also mentioned the corporation's focus on enhancing operations without active acquisition plans, emphasizing the importance of initiatives like the green hydrogen plant in India's transition to a cleaner and greener energy landscape.
