Rely to Transform Indian Ammonia Plant into Green Hydrogen Hub
Key Ideas
- Rely to provide engineering, procurement services, construction management, and commissioning services for AM Green Ammonia's 1.3GW plant in Kakinada, India.
- The project, with a final investment decision in August 2024, will utilize John Cockerill electrolysers to produce hydrogen for green ammonia production.
- AM Green plans to export the hydrogen derivative to Europe and aims to produce one million tonnes of ammonia by 2026, scaling up to five million tonnes by 2030.
- The project, supported by Rely's technical expertise and renewable energy agreements, aims to significantly contribute to decarbonization and set new standards in the industry.
Rely has been chosen to transform AM Green Ammonia's facility in Kakinada, India, into a green hydrogen hub. The project, which secured a final investment decision in August 2024, involves the production of hydrogen using John Cockerill electrolysers for green ammonia production. Rely's scope includes providing EPsCm services for the entire plant, covering various components such as electrolysers, nitrogen air separation units, ammonia synthesis trains, storage facilities, and offsite utilities. By 2026, the plant aims to produce one million tonnes of ammonia, with plans to increase this capacity to five million tonnes by 2030. AM Green intends to export the produced hydrogen derivative to Europe, targeting companies like Uniper and Yara. The project's goal is to contribute significantly to decarbonization efforts, especially in hard-to-abate industries, and to drive innovation in the clean energy sector. Rely's CEO, Damien Eyriés, expressed pride in supporting AM Green's sustainability goals and highlighted the potential for the project to shape the future of clean energy. Mahesh Kolli, AM Green's Group President, emphasized the partnership with Rely to enhance the capabilities of the green ammonia facility. The project has received pre-certification for compliance with Europe's RFNBO criteria and has secured renewable energy through a long-term agreement with NTPC to power the electrolysers, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
