H2Terminals, a UK-based hydrogen marine technology company, has joined forces with the London P&I Club, a maritime insurer, to create insurance solutions for green hydrogen shipping. The partnership, formalized through an MoU, aims to develop specialized insurance products for the maritime transport of green hydrogen. H2Terminals plans to produce green hydrogen on floating barges in the Thames Estuary, powered by an offshore energy island. They intend to distribute the hydrogen using liquid hydrogen carrier vessels that are powered by hydrogen. The London P&I Club will focus on crafting tailored insurance solutions for H2Terminals' hydrogen-powered vessels and storage systems. The partnership will assess specific insurance needs, evaluate risks, and establish best practices for insuring bulk liquid hydrogen transport. CEO Gerry Wilkinson highlighted the importance of the partnership in enhancing safety and reliability in clean energy transport. The collaboration builds on H2Terminals' commitment to innovation, including a recent partnership with Lloyd’s Register. The company is working on a cutting-edge liquid hydrogen terminal in London that will support a zero-emission, hydrogen-powered future. H2Terminals is collaborating with the London Estuary Growth Board to supply green hydrogen at a large scale over the next twenty years, showcasing their commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
