Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has launched a groundbreaking trial of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks to revolutionize long-distance cargo transportation in the country. The trial, flagged off in New Delhi by government officials Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Joshi, will run for up to 24 months and involve 16 advanced hydrogen vehicles with various technologies. These trucks, equipped with Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2-ICE) and Fuel Cell (H2-FCEV) technologies, will be tested on major freight routes around cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi-NCR. The initiative, funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, aims to evaluate the commercial feasibility of hydrogen trucks and develop necessary infrastructure for their seamless operation. Tata Motors sees this as a pivotal step towards sustainable mobility and aligning with India's green energy objectives. The company's commitment to leading in sustainable solutions is evident in its comprehensive approach to hydrogen mobility, utilizing both H2ICE and FCEV technologies. These hydrogen trucks offer operational ranges of 300-500 km and prioritize cost-efficiency, performance, and driver safety.
