Sembcorp, a leading energy and urban solutions provider based in Singapore, has announced the signing of two non-binding Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Odisha in India. The MoUs are aimed at exploring the development of a 720,000 metric tonnes per annum green hydrogen production facility and an industrial park in Odisha. The agreements were signed by Sembcorp's subsidiaries, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India (SGHI) and Sembcorp Development, with the Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.
The green hydrogen facility is expected to create more than 2,000 employment opportunities once operational. The signing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Singapore's Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance as well as the Chief Minister of Odisha. These MoUs further enhance the collaboration between Singapore and India, focusing on sustainability and other key areas.
The agreements are seen as a significant step towards boosting renewable energy and industrial development in Odisha. However, they are not projected to have a substantial financial impact on Sembcorp for the financial year ending December 31, 2025. The move signifies a positive development in the renewable energy sector and paves the way for future green initiatives and investments in the region.
