Fabrum, a leading New Zealand company in zero-emission transition technologies, has collaborated with King Watercraft to create the H2Ocean, a zero-emission hydrogen-powered boat. This RIB boat is designed for tourism, commercial, and leisure activities, offering customization options for different user requirements. The boat is powered by 18kg of hydrogen gas, supplying a fuel cell that charges a battery bank, which in turn powers the two electric stern legs. Christopher Boyle, Fabrum's Executive Chair, highlighted the significance of this project in showcasing how hydrogen can drive the decarbonization of the marine industry. Will King, Founder of King Watercraft, emphasized the companies' shared values in sustainability and innovation that led to the creation of this high-performance hydrogen-powered RIB boat. Fabrum's experience in cryogenic technology and sustainable solutions, combined with King Watercraft's expertise in marine design and manufacture, has resulted in a groundbreaking initiative. The collaboration reflects the accelerating shift towards clean energy and zero-emission solutions in the marine sector. Both companies are dedicated to promoting sustainable propulsion and driving the adoption of hydrogen as a key player in the future energy landscape. The project not only highlights the technical advancements in hydrogen applications but also underscores the importance of industry collaboration in promoting environmental consciousness and energy efficiency. With the upcoming sea trials in January 2025, the H2Ocean project is poised to set new standards in sustainable marine transportation and contribute towards a greener future.
