With plans to produce 500 tonnes of hydrogen annually, the city, alongside its partners including Trakia University and Italian institutions, is set to drive advancements in renewable hydrogen production. The favourable climate conditions in Bulgaria, offering 1,400-1,800 hours of sun per year, provide an ideal environment for competitive green hydrogen production. The project envisions creating state-of-the-art laboratories and fostering highly skilled personnel to support research and industrial collaborations. Additionally, Bulgaria's strategic location and existing infrastructure make it conducive for the transportation of green hydrogen, with ambitions to establish itself as a major exporter in Europe, potentially utilizing the Danube as a key distribution route.
