Future Use of Energy in Louisiana (FUEL) recently held its inaugural Super Pitch competition in New Orleans, where Louisiana energy startups showcased their innovative ideas. The competition, led by LSU and involving over 50 partners, focuses on the state's energy transition and decarbonization efforts. Zentech Concrete Solutions, based in Baton Rouge, claimed the first-place prize for its pavement coating that emits zero or even negative carbon. Using locally sourced materials, the startup offers a concrete mixture with enhanced durability, flexibility, and cost efficiency. Encore CO2, also from Baton Rouge, secured the second prize for its carbon recycling solutions, while NovaSpark Energy, with an office in Baton Rouge and Houston, won the third prize for its mobile atmospheric hydrogen generator. NovaSpark's innovation converts water from the air into hydrogen on the go, with applications in various sectors including commercial and military. On the other hand, MaxBoring, another Baton Rouge startup focusing on waste-to-energy solutions, was recognized as the fourth-place winner and received the opportunity to collaborate with Baton Rouge's Innovation Catalyst. This event highlights the promising advancements in energy technology and sustainability within Louisiana's startup ecosystem.
