In Q4 2024, India made substantial progress in its green hydrogen sector through the issuance of tenders, investments, and policy initiatives. Three green hydrogen tenders were released by MECON Limited, HPCL, and Powergrid Corporation of India, with the Solar Energy Corporation of India receiving bids from 14 players surpassing the tender capacity. Waaree Energies' approval of a INR200 crore investment for a 300MW electrolyser manufacturing plant under the PLI Scheme further strengthens domestic electrolyser production. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy introduced policies to develop pilot projects and establish Centres of Excellence for green hydrogen. India's ambitious goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 includes reducing green hydrogen costs to $1.5 per kg and achieving a capacity of five million tonnes per year.
