RWE, the largest power producer in Wales and a key player in the UK's energy sector, has received full planning approval for its Pembroke Green Hydrogen plant, marking a significant milestone for renewable energy innovation in Wales. The plant, set to be Wales' first major green hydrogen facility, will house a 100MWe electrolyser on RWE land near the Pembroke Power Station, with a direct pipeline connection to nearby industries. Anticipated to cut carbon emissions by approximately 93,000 tonnes annually, the project is crucial in Wales' pursuit of clean energy solutions. Sopna Sury, RWE's Chief Operating Officer for Hydrogen, praised the collaborative efforts that facilitated the planning approval, positioning Wales at the forefront of the green hydrogen revolution. The project aligns with the UK Government's target of achieving 10GW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030 and offers a sustainable solution for industries still reliant on fossil fuels. Henry Tufnell, MP for Mid and South Pembrokeshire, lauded the approval, highlighting Wales' leadership in renewable energy technology and its contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. RWE's involvement in the South Wales Industrial Cluster (SWIC) further underscores its commitment to decarbonization and innovative green technology. The Pembroke Net Zero Centre, part of RWE's broader ambitions, aims to leverage Pembrokeshire's energy heritage to create new jobs and drive local economic growth while advancing towards a reliable energy future.
