EnBW has recently commissioned a hydrogen-ready gas turbine power plant in Stuttgart-Münster, Germany, demonstrating its commitment to decarbonisation and grid stability. This initiative is vital for addressing the growing need for flexible power solutions in southern Germany to balance the increasing share of renewable energy sources. The modernized site now includes a new gas turbine plant with a gross electrical output of 114MW, alongside waste heat and hot water boilers. Additionally, the plant caters to both base load and peak load supply, providing significant electrical and thermal energy to Stuttgart. The company's CEO emphasized the necessity of regulatory incentives to facilitate investment in dispatchable power plant capacity, calling on the German government to create a supportive framework. EnBW's broader strategy includes converting coal-fired sites to hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants and investing €1.6bn in decarbonising its power plant portfolio. Furthermore, plans to introduce a 100MW battery storage system in Marack by 2024 highlight the company's commitment to grid stability and renewable energy integration.
