Mitsubishi Power has been awarded a contract to supply two M701JAC gas turbines and auxiliary equipment for the Al Wahda Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant in Morocco. Operated by The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), the plant will provide 990MW to the Moroccan grid, playing a crucial role in grid stabilization. Designed for maximum availability, the power plant will cater to the country's increasing energy demands and contribute to its target of having more than 52% renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030. Mitsubishi's advanced gas turbines are capable of handling rapid load variations and frequent start-ups and shutdowns, enhancing grid reliability. Notably, the M701JAC gas turbines can co-fire hydrogen with natural gas, supporting Morocco's future decarbonization plans. Additionally, a long-term service agreement has been signed to ensure the equipment's high availability and reliability. The Al Wahda Power Plant is scheduled to start operations in 2027. Tarik Hamane, chairman of ONEE, emphasized the plant's significance in the country's energy strategy and commended Mitsubishi Power's technology for driving operational excellence and sustainability. Javier Cavada, from Mitsubishi Power, highlighted the collaboration's support for Morocco's sustainable energy vision, aiming to deliver clean, reliable, and efficient power generation solutions for the region.
