Hyzon, a U.S.-based hydrogen fuel cell system manufacturer, has secured the first order in North America for 12 hydrogen-powered refuse Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) from GreenWaste, a recycling and innovation pioneer. This purchase agreement signifies a significant advancement in decarbonizing the waste industry, with Hyzon's high-performance hydrogen fuel cells offering a zero-emission solution for the demanding challenges of refuse trucks. The partnership between Hyzon and GreenWaste aims to introduce hydrogen-powered refuse collection FCEVs, with GreenWaste set to be the first company in North America to operate them commercially. The hydrogen-powered refuse collection FCEVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, aligning with GreenWaste's sustainability goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Hyzon's recent announcement of the Start of Production (SOP) of its 200kW Fuel Cell System (FCS) further accelerates the decarbonization of heavy-duty industries. GreenWaste's successful trial of Hyzon's refuse FCEV, conducted in the Bay Area, demonstrated the vehicles' performance capabilities for waste collection. The partnership between Hyzon and New Way Trucks will see the production of these cutting-edge FCEVs, with deliveries expected to GreenWaste starting in Q4 2025. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in driving the waste and recycling industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.
