Walmart Canada has unveiled a hydrogen fuel cell-powered electric semi-truck in Mississauga, Ontario, as part of its commitment to operating a 100% alternatively powered truck fleet. The Nikola Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV Class 8 tractor can cover approximately 800 kilometers, with the potential to reduce 97 metric tons of CO2 tailpipe emissions per year. By utilizing hydrogen fuel, these trucks offer the advantage of longer trips compared to traditional EVs, carrying high-pressure gaseous hydrogen in specialized tanks that are converted to electricity through fuel cell technology, producing water vapor as the sole emission. Gonzalo Gebara, Walmart Canada's President and CEO, expressed pride in this milestone, highlighting the company's dedication to sustainability and innovation in the retail sector.
