A Centre of Excellence for renewable hydrogen production is set to be established in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, under the H2START project, which was launched with the support of various institutions including Trakia University, the Bulgarian Hydrogen Association, and international partners. Funded by Horizon Europe, the project aims to drive the development of innovative technologies for clean hydrogen production and utilization. Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov emphasized the importance of green hydrogen in the energy transformation, citing Bulgaria's ideal climate conditions for competitive green hydrogen production. Minister Stankov also highlighted Bulgaria's potential to become a major exporter of green hydrogen in Europe, utilizing the Danube River as a natural route. The government is committed to supporting initiatives like the H2START project as part of transitioning coal regions towards sustainable energy solutions. The establishment of the Centre in Stara Zagora marks a strategic step towards promoting green hydrogen technology and advancing Bulgaria's position in the renewable energy sector.
