The mines and energy ministry released a draft resolution detailing guidelines for the allocation of areas to explore naturally occurring white hydrogen gas. The document includes technical and operational conditions for developers, emphasizing social participation and co-production terms. It assigns the responsibility to the ministry for determining areas based on technical, environmental, and social criteria. Interested parties have the opportunity to propose exploration areas beyond predefined limits, subject to specific conditions. Additionally, developers are permitted to co-produce white hydrogen alongside other resources like hydrocarbons, minerals, and geothermal energy. This initiative aims to establish mechanisms for area allocation and authorization for studies related to white hydrogen and other associated gases. The draft resolution is open for public consultation until April 17. Colombia's focus on white hydrogen coincides with the country's plans to produce green hydrogen at a commercial scale using renewable energy sources.
