India's SIGHT Scheme Spurs Green Hydrogen Production with Competitive Bidders
Key Ideas
  • India's National Green Hydrogen Mission introduces the SIGHT scheme to incentivize green hydrogen production, attracting competitive bidders like L&T Energy and Reliance Green Hydrogen.
  • Lowest bidders in the second tranche, including Oriana Power, offer incentives as low as Rs. 0.01 per kilogram for a 10,000-tonne annual capacity over three years.
  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy releases tenders for building the first green hydrogen production capacity of 450,000 tonnes annually, promoting sustainable energy initiatives.
  • SIGHT initiative recommends investing Rs 17,490 crore in green hydrogen capacity and electrolysers, with production facilities required to achieve financial closure within six months and commence operations within two and a half years of the award.
India's National Green Hydrogen Mission has launched the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme to boost green hydrogen production in the country. Notable bidders in the second tranche, such as L&T Energy, Waaree Clean Energy, Reliance Green Hydrogen, and AM Green, are competing for incentives. Oriana Power offered the smallest incentive of Rs. 0.01 per kilogram for a 10,000-tonne annual capacity over three years. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has initiated tenders for constructing the first green hydrogen production capacity of 450,000 tonnes annually, emphasizing the country's commitment to sustainable energy practices. The SIGHT scheme recommends investing Rs 17,490 crore in green hydrogen capacity and electrolysers, aiming to produce 410,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually without technology restrictions. In the second bidding round, the incentive cap is set at Rs 50 per kg for year one, Rs 40 for year two, and Rs 30 for year three, with facilities required to achieve financial closure within six months and start operations within two and a half years of the award.
