Calgary is poised to make a significant entry into the hydrogen sector by establishing the Calgary Region Hydrogen Hub (CRH2). This hub aims to create employment opportunities and drive private sector development, particularly focusing on sectors like airports, heat and power, and industrial fleets. The Transition Accelerator, a Canadian charity dedicated to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, will oversee the operations of CRH2. The project, supported by Alberta Innovates, Calgary Economic Development, the City of Calgary, and the federal government, has received over $3 million in funding. This initiative is seen as crucial in fostering energy innovation in Calgary and attracting external innovation to the region. The collaboration between Calgary's hub and Edmonton's hub signifies a strategic move to position Alberta as a leader in the hydrogen industry. Led by Zak Cunningham, CRH2 will not only establish a physical presence in downtown Calgary but will also work extensively across the city and region to create a comprehensive network. By creating a corridor between Calgary and Edmonton, the hub aims to enhance connectivity and collaboration within the hydrogen sector, ultimately driving impactful advancements in the region's energy landscape.
