Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck recently visited the Moorburg power station construction site in Hamburg, where plans are underway to establish a Green Hydrogen Hub with a significant allocation of federal subsidies exceeding 250 million euros. The project highlights Hamburg's commitment to energy transition and decarbonization, aiming to transform the former coal plant into a key hub for green hydrogen production in Germany. The funding decisions include investments in a 100-megawatt electrolysis plant scheduled to commence construction in 2025 and start green hydrogen production by 2027, powered by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Hamburg's ambition to cover the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to distribution, is evident through additional funding for the hydrogen industry network development. With future aspirations to reach 800 megawatts of electrolysis production, Hamburg envisions leveraging its renewable energy potential to solidify its position in the hydrogen sector.
