The Essar Group, a metals-to-infrastructure conglomerate, has unveiled plans to invest a significant sum of Rs 30,000 crore over the next four years in establishing a green hydrogen facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This investment signifies Essar's commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices and embracing green technology. The group aims to create 1GW of hydrogen capacity accompanied by 1 million tonnes per annum of associated green molecules capacity, utilizing 4.5GW of renewable energy supplied by Essar Renewables for water electrolysis. By focusing on decarbonization efforts, Essar intends to contribute to reducing carbon emissions by decarbonizing various sectors including long-haul heavy trucks, steel production, and oil refining processes. The company's strategy also includes developing LNG and electric ecosystems to promote cleaner transportation and energy consumption. Moreover, Essar plans to expand its power generation capacity to cater to Gujarat's base-load demands, illustrating a comprehensive approach towards sustainable energy solutions.
