Moeve, formerly Cepsa, is set to commence construction of a 2GW green hydrogen hub in Andalusia after the Spanish government's proposal to extend a windfall tax on energy firms was rejected. This move comes as Moeve aims to establish itself as a leader in sustainable energy. The company plans to invest €3bn to build two 1GW plants in Huelva and Cádiz starting in 2022. The construction of 400MW of electrolyser capacity is scheduled to begin this summer. The hydrogen produced will cater to industrial needs, with companies like Fertiberia and GETEC already committed to the offtake. The CEO emphasized the importance of public grants and regulatory support, including addressing electricity grid tolls. Additionally, the Spanish government's announcement of a €1.3bn subsidy package for hydrogen hubs further underlines the positive environment for green energy investments in Spain.
