Denmark has announced plans to provide state subsidies to offshore wind and green hydrogen projects in an effort to reinvigorate a struggling market. The decision follows a setback in the wind energy sector when Denmark failed to receive any bids in a recent wind power tender. The government intends to scrap the current tenders and launch a new one with more appealing terms to attract investments in generating 2-3 gigawatts of power. Climate and Energy Minister Lars Aagaard emphasized the necessity of government support due to the changing landscape where market conditions have made subsidies essential. In addition to supporting offshore wind projects, Denmark will allocate a significant amount to expedite the development of a hydrogen pipeline connecting to Germany, with a target to have the initial phase operational by the end of 2030. However, plans for an energy island in the Baltic Sea are put on hold pending the outcome of the German parliamentary elections.
