European Commission Funds Renewable Hydrogen Refuelling Stations in Spain
Key Ideas
  • The European Commission has approved 100% of the funds requested by Enagás subsidiary Scale Gas for the deployment of six renewable hydrogen refuelling stations in Spain.
  • Funding of over 8 million euros from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) will support the project, with a total investment exceeding 26.7 million euros.
  • The project, named ECOhynet, will provide hydrogen from renewable sources at pressure levels suitable for both light and heavy vehicles in the Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
  • Additionally, CINEA has awarded nearly €422 million to 39 projects for alternative fuel supply infrastructure along the TEN-T, including the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network and the H2Med corridor.
The European Commission has approved funding for Enagás subsidiary Scale Gas to establish a network of six renewable hydrogen refuelling stations in Spain. This project, known as ECOhynet, will be part of the Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and will provide hydrogen produced from renewable sources for light and heavy vehicles. The funding of over 8 million euros from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) will cover the total project cost of more than 26.7 million euros. This initiative aligns with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency's (CINEA) efforts to promote alternative fuel supply infrastructure, with nearly €422 million awarded to 39 projects in the same funding call. The investment in the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network and the H2Med corridor further underscores the commitment to advancing hydrogen infrastructure in Spain and Europe.
