  • Investment estimates suggest a total investment of around ₹80,000 crore for the awarded projects, indicating a significant boost to the green hydrogen sector.
  • India's National Green Hydrogen Mission aims for a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum and 125 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY30.
  • Financial incentives capped at ₹50/kg, ₹40/kg, and ₹30/kg for the first, second, and last year of production respectively under the scheme.
India has recently awarded tenders for green hydrogen production to nine companies as part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme. Companies like Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, L&T Energy, AM Green Ammonia, and Waaree Clean Energy Solutions are among the recipients of the Letters of Award issued by SECI. A total incentive of ₹2,238.59 crore has been allocated under this second tranche, with significant amounts earmarked for companies like AM Green Ammonia, Waaree Clean Energy Solutions, and Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms. The private sector in India is showing promising advancement in renewable energy, particularly in green hydrogen production. The awarded projects could see investments of approximately ₹80,000 crore, with industry analysts estimating the investment required for a 100,000-tonne green hydrogen facility. These developments are in line with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum and add 125 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY30. The government has also set financial incentives, with a cap ranging from ₹50 per kg to ₹30 per kg over the years. The SIGHT programme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission has a budget of ₹17,490 crore, with additional allocations for pilot projects, R&D, and other initiatives. The scheme's guidelines allow for a range of production capacities under different technology pathways, indicating a diverse approach towards green hydrogen production in the country. Successful bidders will be able to set up multiple projects to meet their allocated capacities, fostering a competitive and innovative environment in the renewable energy sector.
