Norwegian project developer GreenH and German asset manager Luxcara have jointly decided to invest in a 20MW renewable hydrogen project located in Bodo, Norway. This innovative project is set to commence hydrogen production in 2026, with an estimated output of 3,100 tonnes per year. The renewable hydrogen will be supplied directly to Torghatten Nord, a ferry operator, making it the first plant to provide pressurised renewable hydrogen for maritime use. In a strategic move to maximize revenue streams, GreenH plans to sell the oxygen and waste heat generated by the facility. The financing for this project, totaling 1bn Norwegian kroner, was secured through various channels including private placements, loan schemes, and share purchases, with a substantial contribution from the Norwegian government body Enova. GreenH's collaboration with Torghatten Nord dates back to 2023 when an agreement was reached for renewable hydrogen supply between 2025 and 2040, focusing on two ferries set to operate from October 2025. Additionally, Luxcara's involvement in the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub project in Germany highlights a broader commitment to expanding green hydrogen production capacities across Europe, with construction set to begin in 2021 and production in 2027. The joint efforts of GreenH and Luxcara exemplify a positive step towards sustainable energy practices and the advancement of green technology in the region.
