Telstra, the Australian telecommunications giant, has signed a power purchase agreement to secure 50% of the electricity generated from the 260MW Glenellen Solar Farm in New South Wales. The project, acquired by Australia's Global Power Generation from Trina Solar, is one of the largest solar farms under development in the region. The Glenellen Solar Farm will cover 300 hectares of land with nearly 393,960 panels and will be linked to the Transgrid Jindera Substation at 132kV. Notably, the project will combine sustainable energy production with traditional farming by utilizing agrivoltaic technology, allowing sheep to graze among the solar modules. Kim Krogh Andersen, Telstra's product and technology group executive, highlighted the company's commitment to the project and emphasized the benefits of cleaner energy and job creation in the Riverina region, particularly in Albury and surrounding communities. Telstra aims to create around 200 jobs during the construction phase, contributing significantly to the local economy. Additionally, Telstra has set ambitious decarbonisation targets in alignment with the Paris Agreement, with goals to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Telstra's involvement in renewable energy projects reflects its dedication to supporting a sustainable future. The company's efforts not only promote cleaner energy but also focus on job creation and community development. By backing innovative projects like the Glenellen Solar Farm, Telstra is actively contributing to Australia's renewable energy targets and demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
