Worldwide Holding Berhad (WHB) has officially put into operation a 1,200-MW natural gas-fired power plant on Pulau Indah in Selangor, Malaysia, approximately 37 miles from Kuala Lumpur. The facility, featuring two blocks powered by GE Vernova 9HA.01 gas turbines in a combined-cycle configuration, is set to support the country's increasing power demand as its economy expands. The plant is equipped with turbines that can burn up to 50% hydrogen when blended with natural gas, aligning with Malaysia's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. With Malaysia's economy expected to triple in size by mid-century and its population projected to grow significantly, the demand for power is set to rise, making natural gas an attractive option due to its availability and lower carbon emissions compared to coal. The plant's performance will be closely monitored and optimized using GE Vernova's advanced software solutions to ensure enhanced asset visibility, reliability, and availability while reducing operation and maintenance costs. The plant's operation signifies a step towards Malaysia's energy transition and development strategy focused on lower emissions from energy projects.
