De Nora's Italian subsidiary, DNIHT, has initiated the construction of a Gigafactory in Cernusco sul Naviglio, Italy, which is poised to be the country's largest electrolyzer production hub with a projected capacity of 2GW by 2030. The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of the construction of a modern facility spanning 25,000 square meters, aiming to serve as a primary hub for green hydrogen generation and other sustainable technologies. This project, supported by funding of EUR 32 million and potential additional support of EUR 63 million, aims to reduce electrolyzer production costs and contribute to Europe's energy transition goals, in line with the European Green Deal. The Gigafactory's emphasis on sustainability and innovation is highlighted by its modern industrial architecture focused on low environmental impact. Its strategic importance internationally is underscored by its role in facilitating the achievement of sustainability goals. The location of the Gigafactory near Milan is expected to boost local economic growth by creating direct and induced employment opportunities. By fostering around 200 direct jobs and 2,000 induced employment opportunities, the Gigafactory is set to be completed by late 2025 or early 2026, aligning with the broader efforts towards decarbonization and green hydrogen production.
