Visitors to the Osaka Kansai Expo now have the opportunity to experience cutting-edge technology with the world's first hydrogen-cartridge powered vending machine. This innovative and environmentally friendly machine, developed jointly by Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. and Fuji Electric Co., operates by generating electricity through a chemical reaction of oxygen and hydrogen. Not only does this process result in zero carbon emissions, but it also consumes only half the electricity of a typical vending machine. The machine's unique power source allows it to be installed in locations without access to electrical sources, making it a versatile option for various settings. However, due to the higher cost and additional space requirements for installation, the decision on broad commercial use is still pending. Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan highlighted the importance of developing hydrogen infrastructure to facilitate the widespread adoption of such technologies. At the expo, a total of 252 vending machines are set to provide beverages, with the hydrogen-powered vending machine being a notable attraction. With expectations of high sales during peak times to combat heatstroke concerns, each vending machine is anticipated to sell 1,000 bottles per day, demonstrating the potential success of this innovative approach to vending.
