Karnataka's Renewable Energy Expansion and Green Hydrogen Pilot Project
Key Ideas
  • KPCL to establish 100.1 MW solar power projects at three thermal power stations in Karnataka.
  • Projects to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 411.4 crore under the EPC model by a private firm.
  • THDC, a PSU under NTPC, to oversee the initiative aimed at optimizing energy production.
  • KREDL invites tenders for a 300 KW green hydrogen plant with a solar installation at BTPS, supporting KPCL's sustainable energy goals.
Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL) is embarking on a renewable energy expansion plan by setting up ground-mounted solar power projects at Ballari, Yermarus, and Raichur thermal power stations. The total capacity of these projects will be 100.1 MW, with an estimated cost of Rs 411.4 crore. The development will be carried out under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model by a private firm over a three-year period. The initiative is being overseen by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under NTPC, with the goal of integrating solar power with thermal generation to enhance energy production efficiency. In parallel, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development (KREDL) has initiated a tender process for a 300 KW green hydrogen plant with a solar installation at BTPS. This pilot project is intended to support KPCL's sustainable energy initiatives and promote the use of green hydrogen in the region, showcasing a positive step towards cleaner energy practices and environmental conservation.
