Tata Motors has kicked off a groundbreaking trial in India by introducing 16 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, marking a significant step towards achieving the country's net-zero emissions target by 2070. The launch, ceremonially flagged off by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Joshi, is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission and is funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The trial, spanning 24 months, will test these advanced vehicles equipped with Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2-ICE) and Fuel Cell (H2-FCEV) technologies on major freight routes across key Indian cities. Government officials praised Tata Motors for their leadership in promoting hydrogen as the fuel of the future, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize the transportation sector, reduce emissions, and enhance energy self-reliance. These hydrogen trucks, with operational ranges of 300-500 km, aim to provide sustainable, cost-efficient, and high-performance transportation while prioritizing driver comfort and safety.
